IEC website provides a focal point for holistic financial education

The Investor Education Centre (IEC) has enhanced its website ( with a new look and enriched contents providing Hong Kong people with a central place for generic and comprehensive financial information, tools and education resources to strengthen their financial knowledge and skills.

The enhanced website covers information and education resources for all financial products and services which range from banking and insurance, to investing and retirement as well as financial planning and money management. The newly developed “Life Events and You” section also provides the general public with information and tips about how to manage their finances to meet their personal needs at different life stages or events, such as getting married, setting up a home and suffering from an illness. Students, fresh graduates just entering the work place and retirees can access a full suite of comprehensive, credible and impartial information about all aspects of financial management in this new section on the IEC website.

In addition, the enhanced IEC website offers interactive tools such as budget planner and savings goal calculator, multimedia contents, cases, and glossary, etc to help the public plan and manage their finances. A brand new IEC YouTube channel, a sharing function via the Facebook and "my favourite page" function are also added to help enrich users’ experience.

Ms Cecilia Ko, Acting General Manager of the IEC, said, "Financial literacy is increasingly acknowledged as a vital life skill in today’s world of ever more complex financial decisions. The self-service website with comprehensive generic financial information and interactive tools that are accessible 24 hours a day forms an integral part of the IEC’s education platforms and resources. We hope that the website, together with education campaigns and outreach programmes will empower the public to become knowledgeable and prudent consumers and investors who are able to make financial decisions that best suits their needs and manage their wealth wisely."

To encourage the public to access to the website for financial knowledge and skills, the IEC also launches the education campaign titled "Get money smart, get rewards!" in digital, social and mobile media from today (13 February 2014) to 16 March 2014. By correctly answering a simple question on personal finance, participants can enter for a lucky draw to take home supermarket cash coupons every week. Those who get correct answers for four consecutive weeks will automatically enter the Grand Lucky Draw to win a prize.

Aside from the campaign, the IEC will participate in the Education & Careers Expo between 13 and 16 February 2014. It aims to promote better understanding among young people of money management, financial planning as well as responsible borrowing attitude through information panels and games at the IEC’s exhibition booth. As a case study of good money management, a seminar titled "Working Holiday – Get Set, Go!" will also be organised on 16 February afternoon where a working holiday maker will share the experience and tips of creating a budget and managing expenses for achieving her goal.
