IEC launches TV drama to encourage better money management

19 January 2015

The Investor Education Centre (IEC) today rolled out a series of TV dramas, entitled “Once Upon a Dime” and co-produced with Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), to encourage consumers to manage their money well.

Launched at a pre-screening workshop for adults and retirees, the TV drama series are based on real-life cases comprising eight 30-minute episodes on the education themes of money management, debt management, saving, investing, and financial and retirement planning.

Mr David Kneebone, General Manager of the IEC, said: "The drama series will hopefully encourage people to set clear and realistic financial goals after viewers see the good and bad side of each money management story.”

The IEC research shows that people in Hong Kong have knowledge gaps regarding money management. The dramas were developed after research with frontline social workers who often help individuals and families with debt and money problems. We believe that TV dramas based on the real-life stories of ordinary people will bring across the education messages in an entertaining and engaging way.

Debuting on 21 January 2015, the TV drama series will be aired at 7pm every Wednesday until 18 March on the TVB Jade and RTHK 31 channels as well as RTHK Screen mobile application. It will be re-run on RTHK 31 and other pay TV channels.

Another pre-screening workshop for young adults will be held on 9 February 2015 at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. More details about the TV drama series are available on the IEC website www.hkiec.hk.
